How many types of massage are there?

While there are a number of differing massages techniques, called modalities, the services we offer here are: Swedish Massage - Sports Massage - Neuromuscular Therapy - Deep Tissue Massage - Myofascial Release - Cranial Sacral Therapy - Heat Therapy and Active/Passive Therapeutic Stretching.

All of these modalities or massage techniques have one goal – to readjust or realign the body to proper balance. Poor posture, stress, illness, overworking of the musculoskeletal system and all the other daily activities in life tend to kick our body's out of proper alignment. Since these stressful situations are daily occurrences it makes sense to have regular massage sessions to maintain your body in a healthily, positive and balanced state of well being.

When is the right time for me to get a massage?

Your body welcomes massage and we advise that you listen to your body. So when you feel like you need it trust your body it knows. Especially when you are dealing with fatigue, stress, sore muscles or injury. Not only is Massage a preventative approach to staying healthy. Massage reduces stress as it addresses physical, mental and emotional stresses that constrict the body.

When is the wrong time for me to get a massage?

When any of these contraindications are present: * Any type of infectious disease * Blood-clot * Cancer * Heart disease * High blood pressure (unless under control with medication) * Fever * Fracture, bleeding, burns or other acute injury * Liver and kidney diseases * Open skin lesions or sores (therapist may work around them if localized) * Pregnancy-induced diabetes, toxemia, preeclampsia/eclampsia * Severe cold * Systemic infections If you are suffering from anything that can be worsened by manipulation i.e. open sores, it is common sense to avoid a massage. Any such conditions should be cleared with your doctor first.

What is not included in a therapeutic massage?

No sex or intimate contact with genitals at anytime. Legitimate, licensed massage therapists DO NOT offer any type of sex or erotic services. L.M.T. Practitioners use the designation of “Massage Therapist” instead of “masseur” or “masseuse” which are typically associated with sexual practices. It would be extremely inappropriate for you to expect sexual favors from any Licensed Massage Therapist. Gyrations of any type on the table or cooing noises such as oohs and aahs will not get you a sexual boon. Such activities are inappropriate it. The session will end immediately and you will be required to pay the full fee and be reported as a sexual predator.

Does it matter if the therapist is male or female?

Absolutely not. The strength or ability of a massage therapist does not rest with his/her gender. It rests in his/her own innate gifts. Everyone has different preferences. Some women prefer only to be massaged by another women and men usually prefer women. If you are nervous about being touched by the opposite sex, find a therapist that you feel comfortable with. Please call or e-mail me directly with any questions of concern.

How can I overcome being embarrassed about my body or being overweight?

As a Massage Therapists I have seen all types of bodies, young, old, fat, thin, male female. As a professional I want to help you feel better. Overweight clients tend to need massage therapy even more because of the added stress to the body. Please do not let your weight or self image stop you ... I promise you'll feel welcome and secure here. Please call or e-mail me directly with any questions of concern.

How to be sure you're getting a good massage therapist?

You can learn the most about an LMT by visiting their websites. Referrals are always a great comfortable way to find a therapist. Friends are usually more than happy to recommend someone they trust and appreciate. You can ask your doctor or health practitioner for a referral. Ask about the types of modalities they use along with their rates and length of the sessions.

Let me know if you are just “treating yourself” or have soreness or you are treating an injury that needs to be addressed. In that way you will receive the type of massage that is most beneficial to you. In some cases there may be restrictions on treatment. Please call or e-mail me directly with any questions of concern.

How much will a massage cost me?

Massage sessions run 1/2 hour for $40.00 and full hour $70.00 1.5 hours $100.00.
